In the present era of science and modern technologies, and in the time when nations seek to unravel the secrets of great achievements, undoubtedly, universities play a crucial role in the development of knowledge and the growth of public awareness. In early years of 1980, the Islamic Azad University was established as one of the phenomenal achievements of Islamic Revolution to fulfill the growing enthusiasm of the young population for higher education. Since then thank to the creative and efficient management of the authorities, this university has progressed in the path of development with great speed.
Tehran central branch as the first and biggest campus of the Islamic Azad University was established in August 1982 with 6 majors at bachelor and 1 at associate of arts with total of 200 students. In light of gaining facilities and following the development track in quality and quantity, today this branch offers 445 majors in 12 faculties in undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate levels comprising of basic sciences, engineering, technical, human sciences, arts-architecture, and physical education spreading out in 157 thousand square academic space. Also, IAUCTB consists of 3 campuses with conditions in line with efficient academic space which endeavors to achieve objectives of improving the quality of education and research. This branch has also established 58 labs, 56 workshops, 3 language labs, a multi – purpose sports complex, 12 libraries, an information center, and a digital library with hardware equipment and software systems.Along with its present faculties the Central Tehran Branch has devoted about 56,000 square meter area under construction for educational purposes, it has over 50,000 students, 1000 members of faculty and 950 employees. Enjoying a highly accredited national position, this university can be considered as the biggest higher education institute in the country.
